I've said many things along the lines of the quotes that follow, but the ideas bear repeating, if only for adsurd redundancy's sake.
"This and no other is the root from which a tyrant springs; when he first appears he is a protector." - Plato
"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." - U.S. President James Madison
"Terrorism is the best political weapon for nothing drives people harder than a fear of sudden death". - Adolph Hitler
"Why of course the people don't want war ... But after all it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship ... Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." - Hermann Goering, Nazi leader.
"The easiest way to gain control of a population is to carry out acts of terror. [The public] will clamor for such laws if their personal security is threatened". - Josef Stalin
Just a few things to think about...

This post on Slashdot (slashdot.org) as a comment to an article about internet addiction says so many things that I think and say all the time. I'm just glad there are others out there that agree.

6:02 pm - This World and I are nothing now...
|
Ok, so maybe a handful of you will read this whole post.
A few days ago I went out and had lunch with Che' and then came to work. Chris came up later that evening and hung out with me for a couple of hours until I got off. It was just strange, because that day both of them brought up religion and politics and I had some great conversations (as I always do with religion and polotics...), but it got me off on a kick that I wanted to vent about here. Since I'm at work with nothing better to do, why not?
What the EFF is wrong with this country? Bill Clinton (and I am in no way insinuating that Bill Clinton was a 'great' president, time and history will tell that if it be true) was President of the United States for two terms. During that time he fostered better relations with several foreign governments and could pronounce their names and knew where they were. He effectively used our military in strategic offensive and defensive roles and did not preemptively attack foreign powers. At the end of his tenure our country had a national surplus of monies. Yet, he was almost impeached for purgery over a blow job in the oval office. To recap; A president did his job, did it fairly well, led the country through an economic boom and made inroads to progress both abroad and domestically, but had articles of impeachment brought against him for a mistake made in his personal life that had no effect on his duty.
Now, our current administration, we've seen insane things. With no real perfect place to start I'll just list them as they come to mind. The Republican Party (and again, I'm not being partisan here, I have several values that I hold quite close that are decidedly conservative) is supposed to be the party of small government and low spending. We now have a record setting national deficit. Our country is more in debt than it has ever been. We preemptively started an unprovoked war based on sketchy intelligence at best with a country that the public was led to believe may have had ties with Al Quaeda. I'm not blaming the Bush administration for September 11th, 2001, but I most certainly will hold them responsible for their reaction and methods of 'dealing' with it. To this day we rarely hear any news about Osama Bin Laden or Afghanistan...out of sight, out of mind, eh? The war in Iraq has cost 2000 American soldiers lives and $200 billion dollars. There has been rampant cronyism in this administration. Michael Brown was tapped to head FEMA with absolutely no prior knowledge or experience of handling crisis situations. We all saw what that led to after Katrina. I won't personally attack Bush's mother, Barbara, for her blatant bigotry in comments she made to the press after visiting hurricane victims in Texas, but I guess the apple really doesn't fall far from the tree. No one has made the fuss I would expect after Haliburton, a company that vice president Cheney is heavily vested and involved in, has been handed, literally handed, 'no bid' contracts since day one of the administration taking office. Haliburton was given military and government contracts for several jobs in Iraq and the post Katrina clean up contract without having to compete with other contractors in a bid process. And speaking of Mr. Cheney, his chief of staff outed an undercover CIA agent serving her country. We're talking three steps from the top, president, vice president, vice president's chief of staff (yes, I realize he is not third in line to run the country, I'm speaking strictly on proximity to the president) and he made public the identity of an undercover CIA agen in the field. He is not, and will not, be facing indictment or criminal charges.
So, the point I'm making is this; When did America become so apathetic that the corruption can reach a point of basically being literal shit and piss stuffed in our faces, our nostrils, and we take no action to rectify it?
If a president can have articles of impeachment brought against him for lying about oral sex, where is that high standard of jusice now, when we need it most?
I'm forced to come to a handful of conclusions; The American people don't know, the American people are powerless, or the American people don't care.
We must remember there is no 'us' and 'them'. The government of the United States has power and retains power so long as the citizens of said government allow it. We are the government. The men and women that run this country there in Washington D.C. are there because we said they can be. We can also say we don't like the way things are being done and we want them changed.
I don't recognize the legitimacy of any governing body which I can't manipulate or otherwise control.
So, mull this over next time you're getting a mocha at Starbucks or shopping at Wal-Mart.
(I really need to write more. My 'mad skillz' at composition are slipping, slipping, slipping away....)

Don't you hate it when you're DLing a couple of files that are a few gigs a piece, and your torrents are going awfully slow....and you realize that you haven't set up your virus immune Mac in the DMZ of your new 802.11g router...and you've been DLing these files for over a day, and you go and do the SMRT thing and turn on DMZ for your IP and your torrents jump to 50+ kB/s each?
Yeah, I thought so. It's cool though, I do it too.

I was watching a program on parallel universes on Discovery Science a little bit ago and they were giving a brief history of particle physics and quantum field theory leading to string theory, then super string theory and the 5 competing string theories along with super gravity, then they culminated in M theory.....
And when they laid out the last bit, the bit of M theory that explains the Big Bang and the beauty of the theoretical membranes that make up the multiverse....
I started to cry.

So, I've been studying up on my poker. I've been playing Hold'em a lot on line this past week.
I'm at a table earlier. I've been at the same table, on pokerroom.com for about an hour, playing with the same guys, winning a bit and having fun.
This new guy shows up, Tiger123, and he's running his mouth about how he just won $20,000 at a high limit table. So, me and the other guys are quizzing him. "Where's the money?" His bank roll was around $4500. I was at $6900 at this point. He's going off about his mad poker skillz and I'm giving him shit, calling him Mr. Ego.
We play a few hands and everything is cool. He got me on one particularly lucky hand where I had JK suited and he beat me on the River getting his 3rd K. He then proceeded to boast about his poker skillz, although we all know he just got lucky.
Finally, I've got pocket 8's. The Flop comes and it's 2 8 J. Now I've got 3 of a kind and I can draw him out, make him think he's got a good hand, drive up the bet and take him. He raises, i call. The Turn is a 6....Just a little more. I bet, he raises, I raise, he calls. The River is another J. Fantastic! I've got a full house, 8's full of J's.
I go All-In, I didn't think he'd call, but he does. We're at the Face-Off and I beat out his hand of 3 Js!
I rib him a bit, in good fun, "where are those mad poker skills now?" and everyone gets a good laugh.
Well, that was sweet, but he refills back up to $1000 from the cashier.
Long story short. We play a few more hands and it comes down to him and I again. I've got pocket 4s and get the third on the Flop. I draw him out and finally get him called at All-In.
He had a PAIR. I took him TWICE. EVERYONE gave him shit....then he left, never to be heard from again. Haha, awesome.
The lesson here kids is "Don't Talk Trash! You end up writing checks your ass can't cash."
Wait, no it isn't.
The real lesson is, "I Effin' RULE that dumb bitch! OWN! OHHHHH DISS!!!11!!1!!"

5:17 pm - Cool Kids never have the time
|
Alright, time for a real post.
So, lately, hmmm. We're going to closing on the house in Jenks soon...when exactly, I'm not sure. My buyer is wanting to switch from conventional financing to FHA financing, and I'm trying to explain to him that it's not a trivial thing to do. It's a big deal. But I think all will be well with the transaction. My seller's are very anxious and freaking out about the change. This is where my expertise as a Realtorâ„¢ (yeah, you like that? It's trademarked, not every agent is a Realtorâ„¢) comes in to play...which is basically consoling them and telling them everything will be alright.
I've got a client flying in from California the 15th, 16th, and 17th to look at 4 rental properties over by TU that are all updated and rented. They're asking $225,000 for the package and the seller is willing to carry the note. So, again, as a Realtorâ„¢, I'm arranging a hotel room for him (at a discount, because I know people that own hotels), setting up meetings with both the seller and our mortgage company president, and buying tickets to a Driller's game. He's an English guy, living in California, flying to Oklahoma to look at investment properties, and he wants to see a Driller's game. How cool am I?
And I'm working on picking up a house for another investor friend of mine here in Tulsa. It's HUGE. 5751 sq ft. It was originally listed for $399,900, but they've reduced it to $379,900. It's worth upwards of $470,000 fixed up. And I had another guy call me from California looking for investment properties here in Jenks, etc.
So, busy as all hell. And, of course, I want more.
Personally, let's see. I'm broke as of now (what's new?), but that'll be changing soon. I've sort of been seeing this girl. I don't ever hang out with anyone, and I watch too much TV.
I only get one day off a week, and then I feel bad if I actually just lounge that day. I have to be doing something. Who the hell am I? I feel BAD for being lazy? Bizarro Clint.
So, no one will probably read this, or if they do, they won't care. But I'm bored and have nothing better to do at the moment. So why not make a long rambling, ranting, aimless post.....Like the Cool Kids do.
L8.

As of 12:30pm this afternoon I will have an accepted contract on my listing here in Jenks. Then we'll be going to closing.
I ended up representing the buyer as well, so my payday will be twice as sweet.
This, along with a few other deals I'm working on, is what keeps me going, and I'm really digging it.
Remember everybody, you've got a friend that's a Realtor in Tulsa!
